Course Description

AAC trainers are often called upon to support families, educators, and clinical teams in implementing AAC systems, even when they are not specialists in a specific language system. This two-hour course provides AAC trainers with foundational knowledge and practical skills for supporting teams using LAMP/Unity-based vocabulary systems.
Participants will explore the basic organization and language principles underlying Unity vocabulary, including semantic compaction, word families, and consistent motor patterns. Through demonstration and guided practice, participants will learn how to locate vocabulary, make common programming edits, and identify features that should remain consistent in order to preserve established motor patterns. Emphasis will be placed on helping trainers support successful day-to-day implementation with families and teams while recognizing when more specialized LAMP assessment, intervention, or training may be appropriate.
This course is intended as implementation support for AAC trainers and does not constitute LAMP certification or comprehensive training in the LAMP therapeutic approach.
